Make this Chuys Creamy Jalapeno Recipe, a Tex-Mex restaurant dip favorite, for your own fiesta! All the flavor without a dining out price!

Y’all, I am all about some good Tex-Mex food! We are always down for some good ol’ Tex-Mex and Margaritas and I do enjoy Chuy’s Tex-Mex Restaurant! I know, I know…Tex Mex is not authentic Mexican food, or even a South Texas style of Mexican food, but I still love it! We are from Central Texas and Tex Mex food is something I can get by with cooking! I haven’t mastered a true Mexican cuisine yet, but that’s definitely on my “to do” list!
When I think Tex-Mex, this recipe is one of the first things that comes to mind. I love the Creamy Jalapeno Dip that is served at Chuy’s! Now, no more searching for parking or hour plus seating waits because I can make my favorite part of the Tex Mex restaurant experience in the comfort of my own home. Between this Chuys Creamy Jalapeno Recipe, my Best Snacking Mild Salsa, some rich creamy queso, and tortilla chips, I don’t need an entre…you know I’m already full and just saved us a lot of money!
Origins of This Recipe
I got this recipe online, probably 10 or more years ago, but I don’t know who or where from. There are so many copycat recipes or copycat versions of this recipe floating around for this dip. I just wrote one of them down and have been making it ever since!
I did a quick google search and found almost the exact same recipe as the one I make from Beth Bryan. I’m just going to assume that this is the one I found back in the day, and I am sure glad that I did. It’s definitely a keeper! I have linked to her about me page and to her original Chuys Copycat Creamy Jalapeno Dip Recipe here! Why I love the Chuys Creamy Jalapeno Recipe

- It’s way cheaper to make and quicker than going to the Chuy’s restaurant for supper
- This Chuys Creamy Jalapeno Recipe is a pretty dang close copycat as far as taste and consistency
- You can make this dip with minimal kitchen skills
- You can adjust the spice level to your liking
- A little goes a long way due to its thin consistency. If you’re thinking you MIGHT need a second batch, you probably don’t.
- It’s always a crowd pleaser
- It can be made in less than 5 minutes
Y’all this is such a good recipe to throw on a taco salad, burrito bowl, over nachos and the list goes on. Don’t wait until Cinco de Mayo to try this one out. It’s such a delicious dip!
Ingredients for Chuys Creamy Jalapeno Recipe

This Chuy’s creamy jalapeno dip recipe can be made so quickly from simple ingredients that you probably already have on hand.
- Dry Ranch Mix
- Sour Cream
- Canned or Jarred Jalapenos
- Canned Green Chilies
- Cilantro
- Salt
- Garlic Powder
- Lime Juice
- Milk or water
Substitutions or Variations
Of course, you can always substitute a homemade ranch seasonings for the Hidden Valley or store brand ranch packet that I typically use. You can use the Hidden Valley dips version, or just the regular salad dressing packet. The dip version is a little saltier, but otherwise, it’s not much different.
You can substitute jarred minced garlic or fresh garlic cloves for the garlic powder.
Fresh lime juice or bottled lime juice are both acceptable in this creamy dip. You can also substitute it for fresh or bottled lemon juice.
You can also use fresh jalapenos if you desire, but I prefer jarred or canned. Using them already prepped from the jar or can makes this recipe much easier and done in the 5 min prep time! In all honesty, I’d rather not deseed and chop a jalapeno or any pepper for that matter if I don’t have to. Yes…I said what I said.
Fresh cilantro is good in this recipe, but I have also used dried cilantro, and this flavorful dip turns out just as good! So, if you don’t have fresh cilantro, no need to make a special trip to any grocery stores for fresh herbs!
Instead of sour cream, or only sour cream, there are some recipes that use real mayonnaise and buttermilk. They basically make a homemade ranch dressing then add in their peppers and any additional ingredients. This would probably an excellent dip that I will try soon, but less ingredients is always a plus, and I always have sour cream on hand, but don’t always have buttermilk!
Equipment Needed
You will need a blender for this recipe. That is at least how I prepare it and quickly. You can probably do this in a food processor as well with no problems, but I have not tried it.
Instructions for Chuys Creamy Jalapeno Recipe

Now to the best part…how easy this spicy dip is to throw together! If you are using fresh cilantro, of course rinse that first, but no need to chop as it will be going into your blender.
Add all ingredients to your blender. Keep in mind that your spice level may vary and this dip typically gets a little hotter once it has sat overnight in the fridge. I would add about half the green chilies and jalapeno peppers to begin with, then taste test your dip. If you like way more than a little kick of heat, they go ahead and add the full amount of peppers and chilies and maybe a little more. Now blend away!

Blend until your cilantro looks finely chopped and evenly distributed throughout your dip. You can dip immediately if you’d like, but we think that it is best served super cold from the fridge.
Pair this dip with some thin tortilla chips or whatever Tex Mex dish you are fixing and enjoy!
If you love this recipe, you are sure to love this Snacking Mild Salsa as well! Enjoy this creamy dip as an appetizer or drizzle it over some fantastic barbacoa tacos! (Coming Soon!)
