Y’all, when I say stupid simple, I mean stupid simple. I can’t tell you how many times that we have gone somewhere last-minute and I throw this dip together. It takes literally less than 5 minutes to make and it’s ready to go! People always asked how I make it, and I am thrilled to tell them because anyone…I repeat ANYONE…can make this dip. If you can use a spoon to stir…check. You can make this bacon cheddar ranch dip!

Honestly, I feel a little dumb dedicating a whole blog post to this because of how simple it is, but that is what Farmhouse 181 is about! We like simple, quick, easy and tasty. I know how busy you are! There are times we just need to throw a couple of ingredients together and move on with our business. This bacon cheddar ranch dip is one of those things. Grab your dip and a bag of chips and head out the door or make it in 5 minutes for your sandwich lunches for the week. It’s that kind of stupid simple!

Why I Love this Bacon Cheddar Ranch Dip

If you haven’t already gathered…

  • It’s simple 🙂
  • Tasty and savory
  • You can amp it up by frying your own bacon if you want
  • It’s good with potato or tortilla chips
  • Ours is always eaten well before there’s a chance of it going bad
  • It’s kid approved
  • No reason to reinvent the wheel, it’s good and good enough!

Ingredients for Bacon Cheddar Ranch Dip

  • Real Bacon Bits
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • Sour Cream
  • Ranch Seasoning

That’s it y’all…it’s a just an amped up ranch dip! If I am making this it’s because it’s quick. You can fry and make your own bacon bits if you want and I’m sure it would elevate this dip further, but I just use a pre-packaged, real bacon bits from the grocery store. Sometimes I will use my own ranch seasoning blend for the bacon cheddar ranch dip if I have it prepared, but otherwise, I use a ranch dip or dressing seasoning packet from the grocery store.

Variation and Substitutions

I use a 24 oz container of sour cream most of the time and a ranch packet, but it’s not super-duper ranchy like the Hidden Valley Dips mix/recipe. If you like more of a ranch kick, just use another half a ranch packet, or use only 16 oz of sour cream.

Shredded cheese from the store is perfectly fine, or use your own shredded cheddar cheese. Most of the time I actually don’t even use cheddar cheese. I use the Mexican cheese blend from the grocery store. I do this for almost any recipe that calls for mild or sharp cheddar or mozzarella cheese. I’m not buying 4-5 types of cheeses for all of the things that I cook. This works for our house! And if I have cheese that is about to go bad, I don’t have to make a specific recipe that calls for that cheese…I have plenty of recipes to choose from.

Frying your own bacon and making your ranch seasoning homemade would definitely be a healthier alternative to the pre-packaged ones. But this recipe is about being simple and quick! And you want to know a little secret…I hate frying bacon. I know…don’t come for me. I do it when necessary, but I just don’t enjoy it and don’t want to if I don’t have to. If we have bacon, usually put it in the oven! That being said, these are all ingredients I consistently keep on hand at Farmhouse 181, especially the bacon bits!

Instructions

mixing dip in glass bowl with spoon

Are you ready for these instructions…or lack thereof?

Get a mixing bowl, or dip bowl, plastic container or whatever vessel you want to carry or store your dip in.

Dump in your sour cream and ranch seasoning. Mix thoroughly until the seasoning is evenly distributed.

Pour in your bacon bits and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix thoroughly until the bacon and cheese is evenly distributed.

That’s it! Eat right then or slap on the lid to move right along to your get together with no mess to clean up. Now that’s a win in itself! Serve with potato chips, corn chips, tortilla chips, or crackers and enjoy!

Total Time4 minutes mins
Course:Appetizer
Keyword:bacon cheddar ranch dip
Author:Farmhouse 181 – Brittany Brockette

Ingredients

  • 1 Packet Ranch Seasoning (equivalent to 3 Tbsp ranch seasoning)
  • 1 Container Regular Sour Cream, 24 oz size
  • 1 Cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 Package Real Bacon Bits, small 2.5 oz size (equivalent to about ⅓-½ cup)

Instructions

  • Choose your bowl or container with a lid you plan to store your dip in.
  • Add sour cream and ranch seasoning packet to bowl and mix together until the seasoning is evenly distributed in the sour cream.
  • Add in the bacon and cheese to the ranch dip mixture and combine until evenly distributed.
  • Serve and enjoy!
  • Store any remaining dip in the fridge.

Notes

If you prefer a more ranchy flavor, more similar to the Hidden Valley Ranch Dips packet, you can use that which is saltier, you can decrease you sour cream to 16 oz, or increase your ranch dressing seasoning.
