Ingredients for Homemade Chicken Bacon Alfredo Pasta

One of the things I love most about this recipe is how simple and budget-friendly the ingredients are. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Butter – For sautéing and adding that rich flavor.
- Onion – Adds a subtle sweetness and depth to the sauce.
- Minced Garlic – Because garlic makes everything better.
- 1 lb Roasted or Rotisserie Chicken – Shredded for ease and flavor.
- Real Bacon Bits or Chopped Cooked Bacon – Use whatever you have on hand.
- 12 oz Pasta – Penne, fettuccine, or whatever your family loves. We use plain spaghetti most of the time!
- Heavy Cream – The base for that rich, velvety Alfredo sauce.
- Reserved Pasta Water – Helps loosen the sauce and add flavor.
- Parmesan Cheese, shredded or grated – Freshly grated gives the best texture and taste.
- Italian Seasoning – Adds a perfect balance of herbs.
- Pepper – For a little kick.
- Salt – Adjust to your preference.
I always like to have already cooked, roasted chicken on hand. It is something that I always want to have in the freezer and automatically elevates any chicken dish to the next level. It saves us money and we love my roasted chicken that is seasoned with our Farmhouse 181 poultry seasoning. I have been roasting a lot of whole chickens lately, but you can follow this sheet pan chicken guide for roasting chicken legs or thighs!
How to Make It

This chicken bacon Alfredo pasta dish comes together in just a few easy steps:
- Cook the Pasta: Boil your pasta to your desired doneness. Be sure to reserve one cup of the pasta water before draining—it’s a game-changer for the sauce!
- Sauté the Onion: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until it’s translucent and just starting to brown.
- Add Garlic, Chicken, and Bacon: Stir in the minced garlic, shredded chicken, and bacon bits. Cook for about a minute until everything is heated and fragrant.
- Make the Alfredo Sauce: Pour in the heavy cream and lower the heat to medium-low. Add the Italian seasoning and pepper. Stir until the cream starts to bubble gently.
- Incorporate Pasta Water: Once the cream has bubbled for a minute, slowly add the reserved pasta water. Bring the sauce back to a simmer.
- Melt the Cheese: Add the Parmesan cheese and stir until it’s completely melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy.
- Season to Taste: Give the sauce a taste and add salt as needed. Let it simmer for another minute, then remove from heat.
- Combine and Serve: Toss the cooked and drained pasta into the sauce, making sure every bite is coated. Serve warm and enjoy!
Tips for the Best Chicken Bacon Alfredo Pasta

- Use Freshly Grated Cheese: Pre-shredded Parmesan can make the sauce grainy, so if possible, grate it fresh.
- Adjust the Consistency: If the sauce gets too thick, add a splash more pasta water or cream.
- Make It Your Own: Add spinach, mushrooms, or sun-dried tomatoes for an extra burst of flavor and color.
What to Serve with Chicken Bacon Alfredo Pasta
This dish is hearty on its own, but if you want to round out the meal, here are a few simple sides:
- Garlic Bread: Because…well…we like carbs.
- Simple Side Salad: A light, crisp salad balances the richness of the Alfredo.
- Roasted Veggies: Broccoli, asparagus, or zucchini make great additions.
